A Memorable 12-Night Africa Family Trip That the Kids Will Never Forget
Victoria Falls - Cape Town - Swakopmund - Sossusvlei - Windhoek

🤔 I'm curious about what motivated you to take an Africa trip with your family!

Since this was our first overseas trip after COVID, we wanted to go somewhere extra special. I wanted to experience again the sense of wonder I felt exploring natural caves in Indonesia in my twenties, and I thought it would be even more meaningful if it was a trip with my family.
My husband considered Europe, but I was worried the kids would find the museums and art galleries that come to mind with European travel boring. The extensive travel and all the walking required was also a concern.
In the end, we chose Africa where we could experience nature and wildlife firsthand and have a more unique experience.
💬 What was the most difficult part of preparing for your Africa trip?
We wanted independent travel rather than a package tour, but finding information wasn't easy. The costs were higher than expected, so we even wondered if we should change our destination.
Airfare, visa costs for each country, and lack of infrastructure made it more expensive than anticipated. Even when searching for information through YouTube or blogs, it was hard to get a sense of distances between regions or security situations.
💬 Why did you choose Amo Travel among so many travel agencies?
We compared several travel agencies during preparation, but Amo Travel was the one that seemed most trustworthy.
The first agency I contacted had many questions that needed to be asked locally, so responses were delayed. Another place recommended camping at Sossusvlei in Namibia to save costs, but after going there myself, I realized camping would have been a disaster. The weather was so hot it would have been impossible without air conditioning.
Jin, the representative at Amo Travel, clearly communicated what was possible and what wasn't, which earned our trust. Initially, we planned a Windhoek-Sossusvlei-Swakopmund-Etosha route in Namibia, but based on Jin's direct business trip experience there, he informed us that Etosha would be in rainy season making animal viewing difficult, and instead recommended Big Falls, Chobe, and Cape Town itineraries.
Most importantly, rather than saying "everything is possible," he clearly stated what was and wasn't possible, and suggested new itineraries we hadn't anticipated- that was the deciding factor.
💬 What was the most impressive moment of your trip?
Victoria Falls helicopter tour

Viewing Victoria Falls from the sky as thousands of tons of water poured down was truly spectacular. Admiring the massive scale of the falls from the aircraft, I strongly felt "we're really in Africa."
Chobe game drive

Right as we started the game drive, we encountered an elephant family playing in a water hole. Watching them splash water on each other was so peaceful, and I couldn't help but smile watching that scene : )
Sandwich Harbour 4x4 tour

Driving through the endless desert meeting the ocean in a 4x4 vehicle was both thrilling and exhilarating. Especially when the driver raced over sand dunes like a roller coaster, our whole family cheered ㅋㅋ~
Sossusvlei Big Daddy climb

Climbing barefoot up the sand dunes and feeling the soft sand under our feet was special. The red desert and vast landscape spread out below from the highest point looked like a dreamlike scene disconnected from reality.
Milky Way at Sossusvlei

The night sky viewed from the middle of the desert with no city lights at allwas overwhelming. The time spent lying on towels in the garden in front of our accommodation with family, gazing at the Milky Way, was the most romantic and unforgettable moment of the trip..! 🌌

💬 What were the good points about traveling to Africa through Amo Travel?
👍 Customized itinerary tailored to our preferences, created with expert help
Adding Chobe safari and Cape Town to the original Namibia itinerary based on the representative's recommendation made for a much more diverse trip. The fact that they create optimized custom travel itineraries that match your desired travel styleis really an advantage.
Also, the local guides were wonderful. When one of our suitcases went missing during Zimbabwe immigration, the guide found it at the airport the next day and delivered it to us. For my child's birthday party, the guide also looked up where to buy a cake locally and purchased it for us.
In particular, the South Africa guide was a Korean person living locally, so it was great to hear detailed explanations in Korean about the local social atmosphere, culture, history, etc. Having a guide who drove for us allowed us to save energy and fully enjoy the trip.
💬 What tips do you recommend for people preparing for Africa travel?
⭕️ Must-bring items: Portable bidet (wet wipes), USB charging adapter, cup noodles, ready-to-eat rice, probiotics, motion sickness medicine, swimsuit, long-sleeve clothes, hat that covers the neck, slippers for accommodation, DSLR camera
❌ Unnecessary items: Shower wipes (all accommodations had complete shower facilities)
