👋 Please introduce yourself!

Hello. I'm 35-year-old Lee*Jung who loves solo travel. My hobby of solo traveling began when I went to the UK as an exchange student during university.

💬 Which countries have you traveled to alone? Why do you travel solo?

During my exchange student days in the UK, I traveled to many European countries, including France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain. Since then, I’ve traveled solo to Taiwan, Thailand, Portugal, and now Tanzania and Zanzibar.

There are various reasons why I travel alone. First of all, it's a great opportunity to focus on myself. When I travel alone, I discover aspects of myself I didn't even know existed. Being able to fully experience the excitement, joy, and even the fear that come with traveling—all by myself—feels so romantic.

💬 Any tips for solo travel?

Well, nobody knows me at my travel destination, so act with courage!! Challenge yourself boldly with different outfits, ways of speaking, and behaviors that aren't usually "you" - you'll have more fun!

💬 Why did you choose Africa as your travel destination?

Last year, I discovered travel in Tanzania through Jigu Marble. I’ll admit that I had preconceptions about Africa, but the Tanzania I saw through Jigu Marble looked so relaxed and carefree. Earlier this year, I had so many worries and so much stress from personal matters, so I desperately needed that kind of peace.

At a time when I needed psychological relief, I also had time off due to a job change, so this summer I chose Africa—an unknown world I had never experienced before.

💬 Weren't you scared about going to Africa alone?

As an INFJ, I usually worry a lot and have many fears. I'm timid and tend to create worries for myself. But actually, I wasn't scared of Africa at all. To be scared, you need information, but there really wasn’t much available. Thinking about the purity and openness of the African people I felt through Jigu Marble, it actually seemed less scary than Europe.

💬 What was difficult while preparing for Africa?

Originally, I was thinking of traveling independently in Africa, just like on my other trips. But figuring out transportation and how to get around was quite difficult.

When I look at European or Southeast Asian countries, there is a lot of information about public transportation and taxis, and they do not feel too different from Korea, but Africa isn't like that. That is part of the reason I ended up traveling with Ahmo Travel. 💬 Zanzibar and Serengeti review

I usually choose mountains over the ocean when given the choice. I’m not particularly a beach person, but Zanzibar was on a completely different level from any ocean I'd seen before. The emerald sea was mesmerizing, constantly shifting its hues with every passing moment.

Every morning from 5:30 a.m. until breakfast, I would sit on the sun-bed in front of my accommodation, looking at the beach, watching the sunrise, and in the evening watching the sunset while reflecting on the day. Those moments were so fantastic and they still make me emotional.

During the sunset tour, I sang with people, ate fruit, and spent time meditating while watching the sun set over the calm, peaceful ocean.

And every day in the Serengeti was pure wonder itself. On the small plane to the Serengeti, I was lucky enough to sit right next to the pilot!

The endless plains of the Serengeti, with no visible boundaries and countless wild animals walking across them, made it feel like a completely different world I had never experienced before.

It honestly looked like the Earth when it was first created. It was such an overwhelming experience that just looking at the photos and the videos gives me goosebumps.

💬 How was the AhmoTravel guide?

One thing I realized in the Serengeti was that the enjoyment of a safari tour varies tremendously depending on the guide’s passion and ability.

My guide was Godson, and the safari tour with him was perfect. His English was great, so communication was smooth, and he always asked if I was comfortable and took care of me. Like a seasoned guide, he had an incredible eye for spotting wildlife. Thanks to him, I managed to see almost all of the African Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, and leopard) missing out only on the elusive rhino.

💬 How was the accommodation?

Nungwi Dreams in Zanzibar, which AhmoTravel specially arranged for me, was the best accommodation I've ever stayed at in all my travels.

The location was perfect, and the facilities, such as the swimming pool and bar within the accommodation, were excellent. The staff were so friendly and the service was satisfying - I thought I'd be fine just spending time at this accommodation without going anywhere else.

💬 What advantages of AhmoTravel did you notice during your trip?

The real-time open chat room for travelers was really helpful. To travel between Zanzibar and Serengeti, you have to take domestic flights, and flight times were often delayed. There were so many good things that it’s too hard to pick just one… but if I had to choose, Africa’s unique vibe was the best. Everywhere I went, there was music and dancing with such vibrant energy that brought me to life, as someone exhausted by modern society. What I loved most about Africa was how vibrant it was. It wasn't a monochrome world, but a place bursting with colorful people and incredibly diverse scenery.

💬 Would you recommend solo travel to Africa?

I would absolutely recommend it! I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the unknown world while having endless conversations with themselves. Through the various emotions you experience in those situations, you can focus on yourself. Even people who aren’t good at being alone should try going solo if they want to grow as independent individuals!
