👋 Hello. Please give us a brief introduction about yourself!

Hello, I’m Kim Yujin, a writer, and I went on my honeymoon trip to Botswana with AhmoTravel in May 2023.

💬 What made you choose Africa as your honeymoon destination?

Originally, I was considering Europe for our honeymoon. However, after seeing my favorite travel influencer, Hyeonji (Travel HJ), recommend Tanzania and Zanzibar as honeymoon destinations in an “Ask Me Anything” post on social media, I decided to look into it further. To my surprise, it turned out to be even better than I had expected.
I thought this would be our last chance for a long trip before having kids, so we decided to go somewhere that would be difficult to visit with children. Of course, after the trip, I changed my mind and now want to come back with kids someday.

💬 I'm curious about your usual travel style. Did you often use travel agencies before?

I'm totally an extreme [MBTI] P type personality. I'm the kind of person who gets inspired during lunch with friends and suddenly goes on a trip, or arrives at a destination and then looks for accommodation! Except for family overseas trips when I was in middle school, I had never used a travel agency as an adult.

Also at Maasai Mara in Kenya we witnessed actual hunting scenes of wild animals and encountered nature's ecosystem in its raw form, and that moment was truly special. It's one of the most intense memories from the entire trip.

💬 How did you find out about Ahmo Travel?

After deciding on Africa for our honeymoon, I searched YouTube for videos of people who had been to Africa. I found out about Ahmo Travel (formerly Simple Safari) through reviews in the video comments from people who had traveled with them.

💬 Weren't you worried about traveling to Africa?

The moment I brought up Africa, my husband jokingly asked if we'd get eaten by the animals on safari. Honestly, when the company representative suggested a walking safari, I felt a little nervous myself. I was also quite worried about safety, to the point where I even bought a phone lanyard.

💬 After returning from the trip, has your perspective on Africa changed in any way?

The animals that I thought would be scary actually seemed cute. In fact, I was disappointed that the animals didn't come close to us. Also, it was safe with the guide, and there were many European tourists, so we rarely encountered locals. At first, my husband would scold me if I left my phone behind, but later he was the one leaving it behind.

💬 You went on a long 10-night trip from Chobe to Mahé Island. Are you satisfied with this route?

Whether to enjoy safari first and then go to a resort, or relax first and then enjoy safari - I think preferences differ depending on personality. For us, doing safari first and then going to the resort made us feel a bit bored. I guess the excitement of game drives was too intense.

💬 Wasn't it boring with such a long safari schedule?

If we had more travel time, we definitely would have extended the safari game drive schedule. It's a special experience you can only have in Africa, and since the animals and situations are different every time you go on a game drive, there was never a dull moment. The natural scenery itself is beautiful, so it was great even when we couldn't see animals.

Just as we don't easily get bored when raising pets after watching them for just a day or two, the longer you spend watching animals through game drives, the better. When we go on safari, we're not going to see how they look, but to see how they live. Since you can't predict what will appear when and where, staying for a longer time will allow you to feel more joy.
